PNG or JPG?

PNG is lossless, which makes it perfect for screenshots, logos and graphics with text - but photos saved as PNG are often five to ten times bigger than they need to be. Converting a photo to JPG at around 85% quality keeps it looking the same while making it far easier to email or upload.

Keep graphics with sharp text, line art or transparency as PNG, or convert them to WebP instead.

Frequently asked questions

Will converting PNG to JPG lose quality?
JPG is a lossy format, but at 85-92% quality the difference on photos is very hard to see. Graphics with fine text may show slight softening.
What background do transparent PNGs get?
Transparent areas are filled with white, because JPG cannot store transparency.
How much smaller will my file be?
It depends on the image, but photos commonly shrink by 60-90%. The tool shows the exact saving for every file.
