How to use the compress images

  1. Add imagesDrop one or many images onto the box, or tap to choose them. HEIC photos from iPhone are supported.
  2. Choose the outputPick JPG, PNG or WebP. For JPG and WebP, use the quality slider to trade a little detail for a much smaller file.
  3. Optionally resizeSet a maximum width to shrink large photos - a big saving for websites and email.
  4. DownloadSave each file, or download them all together as a ZIP.

How image compression works

Compression throws away detail your eyes are unlikely to notice and stores the rest more efficiently. Two settings matter most: quality (75-85 is the sweet spot for photos) and dimensions - a 4000-pixel phone photo shown 800 pixels wide on a website is carrying twenty times the pixels it needs.

This compressor keeps your original format by default. For the smallest files on a website, switch the output to WebP.

Frequently asked questions

How small can I make an image?
Large phone photos often drop from 3-5 MB to 200-400 KB at 75% quality and 1920 pixels wide, with no visible difference on screen.
Can I compress PNG?
PNG is lossless, so its quality setting has no effect. Reduce its width, or convert it to WebP, which is usually far smaller.
Is there a file size limit?
No server limit applies, because nothing is uploaded. Very large images are limited only by your device's memory.
