How to use the utm builder

  1. Paste your page URLEnter the address of the page you want people to land on.
  2. Fill in the tagsSource, medium and campaign are the essentials. Pick a preset to fill them in one click.
  3. Copy and shareCopy the tagged link, or download it as a QR code for print.

What each UTM parameter means

  • utm_source - where the visitor came from: newsletter, facebook, google.
  • utm_medium - the type of channel: email, social, cpc, referral.
  • utm_campaign - the promotion or campaign name: spring_sale.
  • utm_term - optional, for paid search keywords.
  • utm_content - optional, to tell apart two links in the same campaign, such as header_button and footer_link.

Keep your naming consistent

Google Analytics treats Facebook, facebook and fb as three different sources, which splits your reports. This builder lowercases values and replaces spaces by default, and you can save presets for the channels you use most so the whole team tags links the same way. GA4 also groups traffic into default channels using the medium, so stick to standard values like email, social and cpc.
