How to use the serp preview
- Enter your page detailsType or paste the page title, meta description and URL.
- Check the previewSwitch between desktop and mobile. Text that Google would cut off is shown after the ellipsis.
- Fix anything in redAim for green bars on both. Copy the finished tags straight into your page or CMS.
Why pixels matter more than characters
Google does not cut titles off at a fixed number of characters. It truncates by width - roughly 600 pixels for titles on desktop - so a title full of wide letters like W and M is cut sooner than one with narrow letters like i and l. This tool measures your text in the same font and size Google uses, which is far more accurate than a character count.
Writing titles and descriptions that get clicks
- Put the main keyword near the start of the title.
- Make the description a reason to click: what the reader gets, in plain words.
- Every page should have its own title and description - duplicates confuse search engines.
- Google may rewrite descriptions it thinks do not match the search, so make sure yours actually summarises the page.
